Remember the robot that was set to make history as the first AI to defend someone in court? We’re going to get to see how it does as a defendant, as DoNotPay has been sued for operating without a law degree. The US law firm Edelson has filed a class action case against the AI for “masquerading as a licensed practitioner.”

The attorney who filed the lawsuit, Jonathan Faridian, says he’s used DoNotPay’s AI to draft a discrimination complaint, a small claims filing, and a number of legal documents. He says he thought he was buying “legal documents and services that would be fit for use from a lawyer that was competent to provide them.”

DoNotPay says they have nothing to hide, and “may even use our robot lawyer in the case.”
