A Hawaiian couple had a shocking electric bill for last month, with the electric company saying they were the legal owners of the street and responsible for paying for the electricity used by the streetlights. Hawaiian Electric Company says the balance is over $18k due to “several years of unpaid invoices;” the couple’s bill was supposed to be $65 for the month.
Desha-Ann and Rashann Kealoha were “shocked, overwhelmed and confused” according to Desha-Ann, who added, “My husband has a colorful vocabulary – he was upset.” A spokesperson for the company says they don’t expect the couple to pay the balance but is working with the city to track down who’s responsible for paying the bill.
