Chinese Gold Medalist Says Her Medal Is Peeling

Four weeks ago, China’s Zhu Xueying won the gold medal in Women’s Individual Trampoline at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but she now says there’s a problem with her award. Xeuying has posted pictures of her medal online to prove her claim that her gold medal is peeling.

The International Olympic Committee says it’s not the gold plating that’s peeling off, but a protective film. The medals for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics were made of metal from recycled electronic devices donated by Japanese citizens and then plated in gold, silver, and bronze. The Tokyo Organizing Committee may open an investigation into the problem.
