While millions around the world are trying to adjust to life under coronavirus safety measures, one Frenchman decided he just had to have a smoke, despite France’s stay-at-home national order.
So this man decided to break quarantine and try to cross the border into Spain in search of some cheap cigarettes. He found that crossing back into the country was a lot harder than getting out. Then he got lost in the French mountains and had to be rescued by helicopter. He was found “exhausted and shivering ” when picked up by the French rescue service, which is a unit of the police.
The man, who hasn’t been named, initially set off from the city of Perpignan by car but found his way blocked by police checkpoints. So he attempted to cross the border to La Jonquera on foot. He was fined $146 fine for breaking quarantine rules.
