This week Jennifer Lopez shared a selfie to Instagram in a white string bikini, reminding us just how amazing she looks at 50. And her photo inspired Maria Kang, founder of No Excuses Mom, to post a picture of herself wearing a white bikini and mimicking J.Lo’s pose, along with an important message to moms about embracing their bodies, no matter what shape they’re in.
Kang writes, “If Lopez can do it, I can do it, if thousands of working moms who come in all sizes, shapes, and ages can do it—then YOU CAN DO IT!!!” And she encouraged her 77-thousand Instagram followers to post their own bathroom selfies in bikinis for the #jlochallenge. Now hundreds of women are joining in and sharing their photos and personal stories about their fitness journeys and why they’re stepping out of their comfort zones to post them on Instagram and Facebook.
Moms including Lina Harris got in on the challenge, posting a selfie in gym gear. She writes that her “body is 35 years young” and gave birth to four boys and that she was uncomfortable taking the selfie, but did it anyway. We can’t all be J.Lo, but we can keep trying to accept ourselves, no matter how tight or toned we are.
