Plane Blows Out Tires And Engine Catches On Fire But Lands After Burning Off Fuel
The flight blew out one of its ten tires shortly after takeoff and the pilots reported an engine issue shortly after takeoff in Madrid. It’s believed the rubber from the tire might have flown into the engine to cause it to catch on fire.
The pilot was told to circle the airport for a few hours in order to burn off enough fuel to make an emergency landing. Spain’s defense ministry said an F18 fighter jet had been dispatched from a military airport near the Spanish capital to evaluate the damage done to the landing gear.
The plane eventually landed safely and the passengers and crew were put up in hotels until they could fly out on another plane the following day.
