It just wouldn’t be Christmas time if people didn’t argue over the gender of Santa Claus. While many people associate Santa as a jolly white-bearded man who likes to wear red and eat treats left beside the chimney, others are wondering how Santa can “reinvent himself.”
One company went ahead and asked a bunch of people if Santa needs an update for modern times. The options ranged anywhere from keeping Santa the same to Santa being a woman. Another option was to make Santa gender-neutral.
The results showed that roughly 19 percent of US people believe Santa should be identified as neither male nor female. More than 10 percent said Santa should identify as a woman, which means about 70 percent of people still believe Father Christmas should be a male.
- Over on social media, the results of the survey have had mixed reactions, with some claiming the idea is “ridiculous”, while others don’t understand the point in arguing over a made-up character.
