John Lennon’s Sunglasses Sell For $183K

A pair of John Lennon’s sunglasses have sold to the highest bidder for $183K. The specs were put up for auction by late music legend’s former chauffeur Alan Herring.

The lot was sold at Shoteby’s London, originally expected to fetch somewhere between $8-10K. The non-prescription sunglasses were given to Lennon in 1966 in preparation for his role in Richard Lester’s film “How I Won The War.”

Herring has explained how that the glasses ended up with him. Back in 1968, he had picked up Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison in Ringo’s Mercedes to drive them to the office. Lennon forgot the specs in the back seat – they were slightly damaged, so Lennon let Herring hold on to them.
