Here’s another reason why living in cold weather can be hazardous to your health. Snow shoveling is responsible for many injuries each year as well as at least 100 deaths.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, an average of 11,500 Americans go to the emergency room every year for snow shoveling injuries. They also say that shoveling snow is responsible for an average of at least 100 deaths a year.
It appears that the main reasons people go to the emergency rooms are because of how out of shape they are. Things like soft tissue injuries, cuts, fractures, and heart issues.
Those heart issues are also the ones that are most likely to be fatal since it’s a combination of tough physical activity and cold weather. That raises the risk of having a heart attack.
So the next time a kid knocks on your door and asks if you want your driveway shoveled, say yes as it might just save your life.
