In any event, French artist Maurizio Cattelan appears to be smarter than the rest of us. At Miami Art Basel, he duct-taped a real banana to a wall…and it sold for $120K. Then, he sold a “second edition.” And then someone else agreed to buy a third edition for $150K. YES, REALLY!
The founder of the Perrotin Gallery said the piece symbolizes “global trade, a double entendre, as well as a classic device of humor.”
