When it’s movie night with your girl, and you’re wanting to get some action, experts say that horror movies are your best bet. Why? Apparently, all the screaming and squirm-inducing on the screen are very likely to get you into some screaming and squirming action because of the reaction your mind and body has to them.

Intimacy and relationship expert Lia Holmgrensays it’s “basic human instinct” when you want to get closer to someone when you’re getting your pants scared off…hopefully anyway. All the way back to “prehistoric times,” it’s been proven that dangerous situations increase the need of bonding for human beings.

From a physical standpoint, it’s all about the blood flow and adrenaline. “When we are scared,” Dr. Holly Richmond says. “Our blood is naturally pulled to our extremities, so we can run faster.” When you’ve got your mojo working, the blood flows much in the same way, with the added bonus of sexually charged adrenaline in the mix. If you’re with someone new, that gets boosted even more because of the thrill of the unknown. So, if you want to pretend you’re a gentleman…go rom-com.
