“Extreme” Beer From Sam Adams Is Illegal In 15 States
For those who want to celebrate Halloween in alcohol-drenched bliss, Sam Adams has brought back Utopias. It’s a “barrel-aged extreme beer” that takes years to develop in wooden bourbon casks.
Only 77 casks were casks were made and it’s described as having “distinct vanilla notes, and subtle nutty and elegant dark fruit aromas,” and it’s a blend of previous batches. And it’ll cost ya, but more on that in a sec.
This beer is also special because it boasts a 28% alcohol-by-volume (ABV), and that makes it illegal in 15 states. With a few exceptions, beer generally stays below the 10% ABV mark. With so few bottles produced, it could be a challenge to find…if you do? You’ll be paying about $200 for the pleasure.
- Is it legal where you are? The states where Utopias is illegal are Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont and West Virginia.
