The Big Story– How People View “Vanilla Sex” Vs. “Kinky Sex”
We’re all people…and we’re all different. That’s why, when it comes to a question like “What do you consider ‘vanilla sex’ to be?” can get so many different responses.
To get to the bottom of it all, one researcher put the question over 4,200 men, women, and people who identified as “non-binary” or “transgender” – more than half of which were in their 20s.
Here’s some of what that research found:
- 53% said that “missionary” position was associated with “vanilla” sex
- 24% said that “BDSM” was associated with “kinky” sex
- When it comes to “mouth love,” 88% of men and 87% of women found it to be “very normal” or “alright.” The other 11 and 12% found it to be “unusual” or “kinky.”
- When came to terms considered kinky, “butt love” ran away with it at 70%. That was followed by BDSM (24%), toys (16%), choking (16%), and bondage (14%). Anyone else find it odd that “toys” and “choking” were tied?
- On the other hand, terms considered “vanilla” were: Missionary (53%), oral (20%), Doggy style (9%), hand love (9%), and basic (6%).
- When asked about the back-door brand of romance, 29% of men and 26% of women found it to be “very normal” or “alright.” The rest viewed it as “unusual” or “kinky.”
Finally, we get into the world of sadomasochism. Only 2% of men and 1% of women found that brand of love-making to be “very normal.” Only 6% and 4% found it to be “alright.” Then, there were the 13% of both genders who’d never ever heard of such a thing. Liars.
So what have we learned? That anything between consenting adults is “normal.”
