Space Station Toilet Explodes
It’s got to be hard enough being stuck thousands and thousands of miles above the earth without any real showers or toilets to use. I imagine it’s even harder when you have to clean up after a toilet mishap on the International Space Station.
Russian media is reporting that the American toilet on the International Space Station burst late last week, spilling gallons of fluid that astronauts had to catch with towels. The toilet, which NASA bought from a Russian aerospace company, cost $19 million.
Over two and a half gallons of water leaked before the problem was fixed and the crew had to collect the water using towels. Water is pretty important to the space station and the crew so this wasn’t an ideal situation. Fortunately, there’s a second toilet on the ISS, located in the Russian segment of the Station.
