Diet Sodas Could Be Making You Fat
If you’re trying to lose weight in 2017 you may want to think twice before ordering that diet soda. Sure, you may think it’s better than chugging down a sugary soda, and while that may be true, it’s not going to help you lose any weight.
A new report by researchers at Imperial College looked at 30 years of studies regarding artificially sweetened beverages and determined that instead of losing weight, the diet drinks can actually cause you to put on pounds. There is also no evidence that diet soda helps prevent type 2 diabetes or aids a person in maintaining a healthy BMI.
And while researchers concede that the drinks offer less calories than those with sugar, they say the diet drinks can still trigger your brain to have food cravings. In addition, because people think diet beverages are healthier, they will likely drink way more of them.
As for previous studies that suggested diet drinks could help you lose weight, the researchers insist they should be discounted because most of them were funded by the beverage industry.
