The Most Popular Dog Names Of The Year
Picking a name for your dog can be just as hard as picking a name for your child, and apparently, a lot of folks are still finding inspiration in human names when it comes to their four-legged friends.
In case you missed it, a new Rover.com report finds that some of the top dog names of the year are also the top baby names, although some people are still trying to be unique. Overall, the top male dog name is Max, while the top female dog name is Bella, both of which are top baby names for 2016.
But there are some folks taking inspiration from pop culture. In fact, dogs with celebrity baby names like Apple and Shiloh rose 8%, this year, while dog names inspired by “Stranger Things” characters, like Eleven and Barb, are up 12%, and the name Hamilton is on the rise in several cities like Washington DC (96%), Boston (88%), New York (15%), and Philadelphia (35%).
Surprisingly, what was once considered “classic” dog names like Fido or Sparky are losing their popularity. Those names have dropped a few percentage points each year, falling 9% from 2015 to 2016.
