Parents Spend Just As Much Time In Front Of A Screen As Kids
It’s no secret that some parents are concerned their kids are getting addicted to technology, but a new study finds that parents may want to look at themselves in a mirror before coming down on their children about their tech use.
A study released by Common Sense Media finds that parents spend approximately nine-hours and 22-minutes a day in front of a screen, with most of that time, seven hours and 42-minutes, spent on personal use, with only about 90 minutes dedicated to work. Those numbers are similar to Common Sense’s poll from last year that found teens spend about nine hours a day on devices, and kids eight to 12 spend about six.
And while 56% of parents are concerned about their kids becoming tech addicts and 34% think it negatively impacts their kids’ sleep, it seems not many realize the example they’re setting. In fact, 78% of parents believe they are good media use role models for their kids despite how much time they’re in front of a screen.
