It Is Giving Tuesday?
With the holiday season up on us, many families are thinking about ways to give back. Giving Tuesday is an initiative started in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation to encourage a global day of giving. The event happens each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (yes, that’s tomorrow), but awareness about the day is still low.
According to research, 4 in 10 Americans say they’re likely to donate – either in the form of time, money, or resources – to a charitable organization in celebration of Giving Tuesday. What areas will receive the most giving?
- Among those most likely to donate, over half plan to donate to a charity supporting human service, about 3 in 10 each plan to give to youth / family and animal causes.
- Around 2 in 10 plan to give to religious organizations, education causes or human rights charities.
