How Americans Combat Daylight Saving Time Blues
It may be hard to accept, but Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend, which means we are going to be losing an hour of daylight, which can make anybody cranky. Not surprising, a new survey finds that 49% of people don’t like losing the hour of daylight, and even though we actually gain an hour of sleep, 63% of folks say they are actually more tired after setting the clocks back, while 25% say they feel lethargic.
And it seems people around the country take different steps to try and make themselves feel better during what some describe as the Daylight Saving Time blues. Watching TV seems to a popular choice for combatting the blues, with 59% of the country doing it, and 65% of New Yorkers. Other popular methods of combatting the blues include: surfing the internet (41%), decorating for the holidays (40%), creating a cozy fireplace (36%), reading a book (34%) and changing up a room with warm lighting (27%).
But not every method is conventional. For example, 12% of people say they bake a cake, with that being a popular option for 22% of Los Angeles men. Meanwhile, 17% of people will have a glass of wine, while 4% of people call their therapist, although that’s true for 11% of all Minnesotans, and 14% of New York City males.
