Hey…who wants free Internet!!! If Mark Zuckerberg gets his way, he will be the one bringing it to you. A story in The Washington Post says that Facebook has been talking for months with the White House about trying to make it happen.

They tried something like this earlier in India, but it was squashed because they couldn’t find a way to make it a reality without chapping the ass of the regulators. That seems to be an issue here as well. The ‘Free Basics’ service would only give access to certain content for users who currently don’t have Internet. However, they wouldn’t have access to everything….and that is where the issues come into play. Who picks and chooses, and how?

Obviously, this is a service that would cater to low-income and rural customers, and would give Facebook more of a chance to learn even more about everyone on the face of the planet.
