The Internet is home to many famous cats, but Tombili was probably the most laid back one. The feline was a street cat in Istanbul, Turkey but became known worldwide after a picture of her relaxing on a step went viral.

Unfortunately Tombili died in August. At first, a picture was put up in her honor in Istanbul. That wasn’t enough for The Anatolian Cat Project. The educational community for cat lovers started a petition calling for a statue to be erected in Tombili’s honor.

“[The] neighborhood loved her so much and used to feed her a lot,” Batu Aksoy, one of the founders of the Anatolian Cat Project explains. “She was [a] very proud cat and did not like [to] spend her time with other cats. Because of obesity, she could not move much, so preferred calmly to lie on [the] sidewalk.”

The petition worked and now Istanbul is the home of a bronze Tombili statue, lounging on the sidewalk.
