Woman Sets World Record For The Fastest Mile While Riding A Bouncy Ball
We all know Usain Bolt is the fastest person in the world, but what about the fastest bouncer? Amy Turner discovered there was no record for the fastest mile while riding a giant bouncy ball for women, so she began to train.
“I was really embarrassed when I first started, there were a lot of dog walkers around and I thought people would [tease me,]” Turner says. “But they were quite amused and, when I explained, they were quite nice about it.” She suffered a fractured her coccyx last year and while that left her in “absolute agony,” she got back on the ball.
Turner completed the mile on her ball, which is called a space hopper in the UK, in 17-minutes and 22-seconds. The mom of two says she’s “pleased” with her time but know she can do better. “I don’t think I’d pumped my hopper enough,” she explains, “that’s not something I thought I’d ever be saying.”
- What’s more, her stunt is doing some good. Turner is using her bouncing to raise money for Young Minds, a charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.
