Chef Went Temporarily Deaf After Eating The World’s Spiciest Noodles
Think you like spicy food? Book a ticket to Jakarta, Indonesia. For about a nickel, you can buy a plate of “death noodles.” British chef Ben Sumadiwiria decided to try some and he ended up going temporarily deaf. That’s right, deaf.
The noodles are cooked with 100 bird’s eye chilies crushed together, making them four-thousand times stronger than Tabasco sauce.
After eating his noodles, Ben became sweaty and had to soak his head in water. “I’m not really partial to spicy food but when somebody throws down a challenge I just can’t say no,” he explains. “I went temporarily deaf and my mouth was burning for hours afterwards.” The craziest part? He says some locals are able to eat an entire plate full.
