Bee Infestation Leads To Honey Dripping From Hospital Walls
Hospitals can be a scary place, but a sticky place? That’s new. Rockwood Hospital in Wales had a bee infestation on their hands and they only discovered the problem when patients began alerting them to honey dripping from the ceiling and walls.
Beekeepers were called to the hospital and discovered a hive which had gone unnoticed for up to five years, allowing for more than 100,000 bees to move in. It’s believed the warm summer weather caused some of the wax from the hive to melt, which explains all the dripping honey.
A hole was cut in the roof and more than 70,000 of the bees were removed. A second colony was extracted from a different part of the hospital, but we don’t know if there are still a few straggling bees around the place.
