Russia Holds Mosquito Festival
Russia isn’t afraid of a little Zika virus. The town of Berezniki held the fourth annual Russian Mosquito Festival this weekend, complete with bug-themed dancing and events, and even a contest to see who could get the most bites.
Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, weather in the region has depleted the amount of mosquitos in the area. The heat and dry weather caused a big shortage in the number of the pesky bugs so the traditional mosquito hunt, where participants try to collect as many of the insects as possible in jars, had to be nixed.
One event that went on as planned? The competition to see who could get the most bites. The winner was a nine-year-old girl who picked up 43 mosquito bites while out berry-picking with her mom. She went home with the “tastiest girl” award, which came with a ceramic cup.
