The actor, who stood three-feet-eight-inches tall, had been battling a lung condition for years but as his niece Abigail Shield explains, Baker wasn’t even expected to make it past his teenage years due to his size.

As you might imagine, the “Star Wars” universe is paying their respects to the late actor. “Kenny Baker was a real gentleman as well as an incredible trooper who always worked hard under difficult circumstances,” “Star Wars” creator George Lucas says. “A talented vaudevillian who could always make everybody laugh, Kenny was truly the heart and soul of R2-D2 and will be missed by all his fans and everyone who knew him.” Check out some of the other tributes coming in for Baker:
