Stacey Sarre figured her phone was gone for good after she dropped it into the sand while walking her dog along the English Channel. The iPhone fell into the sand and was pulled out to sea so imagine her surprise when a month later, someone said they had her phone…and it worked.

Mihal Stratulat was walking along the beach weeks later with a metal detector when he found Sarre’s phone. “I found the phone about 15 inches under the sand. It had been there for around a month,” he explains. “My wife told me to put it in the bin after two days of it not turning on – but then it came on and I couldn’t believe it.”

Stratulat contacted Stacey and reunited the owner with her cell. As it turns out, this isn’t the first time the clumsy phone owner should have lost her phone. “The phone had been down a toilet in a Crete airport before too,” she adds. “It’s absolutely crazy.”
