Alexander Pieter Cirk‘s romantic trip ended with him in the hospital. The 41-year-old Dutch man had been talking to a 26-year-old woman from China for two months and decided to fly there to meet her in person.

The woman, identified only as Zhang, never showed up so Cirk waited…and waited…and waited. After his 10th day at the Changsha airport, he was admitted to the hospital for physical exhaustion.

Zhang claims while her boo sent her a picture of his plane tickets, she thought he was kidding. “We had advanced our romantic relationship but later he seemed a little callous toward me,” she explains. “One day he sent me a photo of air tickets abruptly, and I thought it was a joke. He didn’t contact me later.” She goes on to say she was out of town at the time and didn’t receive any phone calls from him.

Maybe the craziest part? Zhang would be up to continue their virtual romance. No word from Cirk, whose back home in the Netherlands now.
