Study Links Drinking Alcohol To Cancer
If you’re someone who loves your glass of wine or pint of beer at the end of the day, a new study may have you thinking twice before heading to your favorite bar. New research out of New Zealand has linked drinking alcohol, even in moderation, to at least seven kinds of cancer.
The study, published in the journal “Addiction,” says research shows drinking alcohol can cause cancer of the mouth and throat, larynx, esophagus, liver, colon, bowel and breast. The researchers go on to suggest that in 2012, booze has played a role in about half a million deaths from cancer and 5.8% of cancer deaths worldwide.
While the study shows that that there are bigger risks for those who are the heaviest drinkers, there still seems to be links for those who drink alcohol moderately. And don’t think one type of booze is better than another. The research says the cancer link is present for all types of alcohol, with no one form safer than another.
