Lynyrd Skynyrd Movie In The Works

The tragic story of Lynyrd Skynyrd may soon be hitting theaters. Former Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle has teamed with Cleopatra Films to make a movie about the 1977 plan crash that killed the band’s founder and frontman Ronnie Van Zant, as well as many others.

The movie is tentatively titled “Freebird,” after the band’s 1974 classic, and will based on Pyle’s perspective. He was one of the few men to survive the crash, somehow making it to a farmhouse to get help.

“This film’s story — MY story — is not just about the plane crash but also about my personal relationship with the genius that was Ronnie Van Zant, whom I loved like a brother and still miss to this day,” Pyle, who’ll contribute music to the film, said in a statement.
