Priest Punches Best Man During A Wedding
We’re used to bridezillas, but what about priestzillas? When one priest in Cyprus didn’t get what he wanted during a wedding ceremony, he punched the best man.
The orthodox ceremony was held this weekend and during the section where the couple walks around the altar three times, the best man was slapping the groom on the back, a tradition dating back to the Ottoman Empire. The priest did not appreciate it and gestured for the best man to stop. When he didn’t, the priest socked him in the chest and face. Then, the holy man ran off.
“It’s a tradition that I don’t condone, but that was uncalled for. … He could have just interrupted the ceremony,” a family member says. “The wedding was spoiled after that with many people not showing up for the reception after word spread, but we made the best of it.” An investigation into the incident has been launched.
