Cars Are Officially Able To Be Hacked
A British Security Firm has hacked a Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid rekindling the fears of a car connected to the Internet and run by computers.
Now this firm isn’t some weird terrorist sleeper cell — they’re actually hired to find these vulnerabilities. What’d they do? The firm was able to get into the car and turn off its security alarm.
Mitsubishi is saying that people who own the car should disable the WiFi decouple the app from the car until they come up with a solution. The ole “turn off the thing that doesn’t work” trick.
Meanwhile, the FBI and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have put out a warning to carmakers saying they need to keep a close watch on the security of their in-car systems.
