Google Looking To Kill Passwords By The End Of The Year

Google wants you to be done with passwords. So much so that they’re testing out a bunch of different ways to verify that you are actually you — without having to remember your dead dog’s birthday.Google’s Deputy Director of Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects group, Dan Kaufman, says that their initial tests will start in June and they’re going to start with “several very large financial institutions.” Geez, don’t screw this up.

The idea is not to replace passwords with a super-secure indicator, but rather combine a bunch of weaker methods that all together keep your stuff protected. Things like face shape, voice pattern, even how you type and swipe on the screen.

Google isn’t the only company looking to give passwords the boot. The London-based firm Nok Nok Labs has a similar proposal in the mix.

According to some studies we have an average of 97 accounts with passwords to remember. And even more password replacement questions!
