Neighbors in Legal Battle Over a Tree
A group of neighbors in San Francisco are at war…over a tree. Last year, the new owner of the house on Cook Street in the Laurel Heights neighborhood cleared a few trees to make room for a remodel he wanted to do. Fearing he would cut down the remaining tree on the property, the couple living in the carriage house in the backyard and another couple living two houses down intervened.
First, they got a 90-day restraining order that would prevent the homeowner from cutting down the 100-foot-tall Norfolk pine hybrid. Then, the concerned neighbors started the process of getting the tree landmarked, which the owner was not happy about.
Only 16 trees in San Francisco have been made into official landmarks. A ruling is expected to come down this week.
