GLAAD Thinks the Next “Star Wars” Should Have Gay Characters
A study from an anti-discrimination group found that Disney and Paramount didn’t feature any gay or lesbian characters in any of their movies. Now GLAAD, which works toward LGBT acceptance, is calling on Disney to add some gay or lesbian characters to the upcoming “Star Wars.”
“As sci-fi projects have the special opportunity to create unique worlds whose advanced societies can serve as a commentary on our own, the most obvious place where Disney could include LGBT characters is in the upcoming eighth ‘Star Wars’ film,” a statement from GLAAD reads. “Recent official novels in the franchise featured lesbian and gay characters that could also be easily written into the stories.”
The organization does point out that “The Force Awakens” stars a diverse cast, but they think Disney should go a bit further and add an LGBT character.
