Teen Has a Two Pound Hairball Removed From her Stomach
A 17-year-old girl in India was rushed to the hospital complaining of a severe stomach. Doctors at Shree Hospital in Prune discovered the cause- a 2.2-pound hairball in her stomach.
It took an hour and a half to fully remove what at first appeared to be a tumor. After the surgery was complete, Dr. Dhole-Patil asked the girl if she suffered from trichotillomania (hair-pulling) or Rapunzel Syndrome (a disorder that can include pulling out your own hair and eating it). That’s when she admitted she’d been chewing on her own hair since she was 12.
Her parents were shocked. The girl’s dad says they’ve spent almost $7,200 on tests and medicines over the past three years – and no one ever notice the clump. Now, they’re “relieved” their daughter is healthy and they’re looking into finding a psychologist to prevent this from happening again.
