Would You Sell Your Kidney for 50K?
The results of this study suggest that we’re more ready than ever to accept the idea of paying kidney donors.
Of course, very few people are jumping on this and suggesting that we start an eBay for kidneys. But, it’s worth a look, isn’t it?
For now, paying for organs is illegal under the U.S. National Organ Transplant Act. When the law was passed, the idea was that it should all be about charity, that organs should not become a commodity and that giving was as important as receiving.
That really hasn’t worked out so well as more than 100,000 Americans need kidney transplants – and donors are in chronically short supply.
So, forget about asking people to donate and start writing checks!
