Overdue Library Book Returned 50 Years Later
It’s better late than never for James Phillips. The Minnesota man was a freshman at the University of Dayton in Ohio back in 1967 and at some point during that year, he checked out the book “History of the Crusaders.” Then then joined the Marines.
He figures the book was collected with some other belongings from his dorm room and sent back to his parent’s house, where it remained until their death. His brother recently sent the box to him which is when he found the very overdue book.
Phillips then sent the book back to the University of Dayton with an apology note. Lucky for Phillips, the school says they won’t charge him a late fee, which at this point would be somewhere around $350.
