Sick of your day job? You’re not alone – 50 people were bored enough in their day to day that they decided to apply to run the post office in Port Lockroy, Antarctica.
Aside from handling the 80,000 post cards that come through the outpost, the four people hired will also have to do some other work, including cleaning up after the 2,000 penguins that live around the area. Oh, and there’s no running water or electricity and sometimes, employees go two weeks without a shower.
Those selected out of the pool of 50 will spend up to five months in almost complete daylight and have little contact with home. All that for about $1,550 a month.
