Could we ever pay our parents back? According to one mom from Ontario, $34,000 is a start. She sent her son, who is a full-time student, an invoice calculating the expenses she’s racked up since he moved back home about a year ago.

The itemized bill included everything from gas and electric to cleaning and transportation. Oh, and there’s a $1,000 charge for “being an a**hole.” The son posted a picture of the invoice online and there was a mix of positive and negative responses. His mom created her own Reddit account to explain that it was meant as a joke, but one that would hopefully teach him a lesson.

It worked. “This was a very effective parenting technique and it has helped me to realize what an entitled little **** I have been,” the indebted son explains. “I hope to one day be successful enough to support my family and repay her, but she doesn’t expect me to.”
