Internet By Light Will Leave Wi-Fi In the Dust
A French company has developed a revolutionary technology that will provide Internet access 100 times faster than Wi-Fi, with data being transmitted in beams of light.
Your smartphone will be connected to this new “Li-Fi” system with just a lamp. As long as the light beams touch your gadget, you’ll be downloading at over 200 gigabytes per second – that’s fast enough to download the equivalent of 23 DVDs in one second.
This is a huge deal, of course, because the number of devices that will be connected to the Internet is expected to grow to 50 million by 2020 – and there are only so many Wi-Fi radio waves to go around.
Tech insiders see a trend and expect that common things such as coffee makers, washing machines and even electric toothbrushes will be sending and receiving data. So, something has to be done with the network to make this all possible.
