If you want some back story on everyone’s favorite special agents, you’re going to have to pick up a book. Two young adult novels make up the “The X-Files Origins” series will tell the stories of Agent Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

“Agent of Chaos” follows 17-year-old Fox Mulder and is written by number one “New York Times” bestselling author Kami Garcia. “Devil’s Advocate” follows 15-year-old Dana and is written by Jonathan Maberry, a “New York Times” bestselling thriller and horror novelist, multiple Bram Stoker Award winner, and Marvel Comics writer.

According to Entertainment Weekly, both books take place in the spring of 1979, when serial murder, the occult, and government conspiracy were in the news. The books are set for a simultaneous release in January 2017.
