Funerals are a fact of life, but one man in China jumped the gun a bit. Zhang Deyang is 66-years-old, but doesn’t have a wife or children and was concerned he wouldn’t be taken care of in the afterlife. So, he spent $2,450 on a mock funeral to see who actually cares about him.

The ceremony included a fake wedding to a dead woman because going into the afterlife without a wife is considered bad luck. At one point, Deyang even crawled into a fake grave.

Around 40 relatives and hundreds of other people came to watch the ceremony, but the senior citizen still remembers the 20 relatives who didn’t show up. “I can’t believe so many relatives and friends don’t care about me,” he said. “It still weighs heavy on my heart.”
