Barbie Gets A New, And Very Much Improved, Look
For years little girls have been wanting to play with Barbie, and for years some parents have been torn about whether they want to get one for their child. There are lots of people who just don’t think Barbie sends the right message with her skinny waist and ample bosom, but after years of complaints about Barbie’s waif-like appearance, that’s about to change.
Mattel has finally decided to offer more diverse looking Barbies, introducing three new body types – tall, petite and curvy – as well as different skin tones and hairstyles. According to the company’s spokeswoman, the changes were made in order for “the product line to be a better reflection of what girls see in the world around them.”
A total of 33 new dolls will be rolled out by the end of the year, with the three new sized dolls already available on Barbie.com. They are expected to hit stores on March 1st.
And it seems the changes are getting a positive reaction online. “Thank you @Barbie for bravely acknowledging that women can be “Curvy,” “Tall” or “Petite” & not just “Original”!!!” wrote one fan, with another adding “Thank you @Barbie , I’m officially excited & proud to buy my daughter a barbie one day!”
