Susan Ouellette: Visit to the North Country

SPECIAL EVENT IN HOPKINTON Sat. Sept. 21 at 2:00

Phoebe Orvis Eastman kept a diary for about 10 years beginning in 1820 when she came as a young adult to Hopkinton from VT to stay with her uncle Phineas Durfey on what is now 11B toward Potsdam.  She tells of her marriage to Samuel Eastman Jr. whose family lived where Dick and Nancy Eakins live now, and mentions in the course of her daily life many family names we recognize.  Susan Ouellette, a Vermont college professor, has studied the diary and published it in book form, along with clarifying notes based on her research.  The Historical Group has arranged for her to visit Hopkinton and talk about her book. The public is invited to hear her at the Congregational Church.  Admission is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted.  Come help us give her a warm, North Country welcome.  Questions?  Call Dale 315-328-4653 or Mike 315-842-8682
